Acrocyanosis

Abstract
Acrocyanosis is the rarest and most incidious of the arteriospastic disorders, and is charact-erized by persistent but painless cold and cyanosis of the hands and/or feet.
The etiologic factors in acrocyanosis are obscure. In the majority of cases some evidence of endocrine disease is present, but it is by no means certain that in these cases the vascular changes are caused by the endocrine dysfunction, furthremore, acrocyanosis may occur when there is no evidence of any known endocrine disease. .
The pathologic and pathophysiologic features are also virtually unknown, for the disease consists primarily of persistent color changes. Lewis and Landis concluded that the fundamental disorder was a localized abnormality in vasomotor tone in the circulation of the hands and feet. Apparently the physiologic condition is a slow rate of blood flow through the skin, the result of chronic arteriolar constriction, which results in a. high percentage of reduced hemog-lobin in the blood in the capillaries and production of the cyanotic color.
The symptoms tend to be less severe in a warm environment., but- it usually does not disappear entirely. The-abnormalities are more prominent in cold weather.
Acrocyanosis is frequently confused with Raynaud¢¥s disease; but- in the latter the color changes are intermittent nature-and the pallor and blanchingare prominent.
This report deals with a case of acrocyanosis consistent with above mentioned characteristics.-
And he was treated with bilateral anterior transthoracic upper dorsal sypathectomy and bilaterall lumbar sympathectomy; of which result was excellent.
